LESSON TYPES

We offer riding lessons for children from the age of four and adults (18+) of all ages. Lessons are either 30 or 45 minutes.

We are open six days a week and offer private lessons weekdays and weekends. Group lessons are run afterschool and at weekends.

You may choose from private/semi-private or group lessons (subject to availabilty and riding level.) There are no more than six people to a group lesson.

PLEASE NOTE: If a group lesson has 2 people or less booked on to it then the duration will be changed to 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes.

We grade our riders and lessons based on ability. As a rider's ability progresses, they will be moved up into different groups at different times to ensure they are always riding with people of a similar ability. Our rider grades are as follows:

  • Level 2 - Lead Rein (child beginner, being led learning to steer and rising trot)
  • Level 4 - Beginner (walk and trot)
  • Level 5 - Beginner/Novice (walk and trot, learning to canter)
  • Level 6 - Novice  (walk, trot and canter, learning to jump, able to start hacking out)
  • Level 7 - Intermediate (proficient in all paces including gallop, jumping a course, hacking confidently)
  • Level 8 - Advanced (proficient in all paces, competitive rider in XC, Dressage or showjumping)

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

RIDING HAT

You will need to wear a riding hat that conforms to current legislation. If you do not have your own hat, you can hire one of ours (£1 charge per lesson) until you are able to purchase your own.

BODY PROTECTOR

It is our policy that all riders must wear a body protector for jumping and hacking.

BOOTS

Boots must be worn that have a small heel and that aren’t clumpy or wide. If your boots are too wide, it will affect your foot in the stirrup and could cause it to get stuck. You may ride in wellies, however riding in trainers or flip flops is not permitted under any circumstances.

CLOTHING

If you do not own jodphurs and you are new to riding then we recommend comfortable, stretchy trousers or thick leggings. You will not be permitted to ride in shorts or skirts.

Long -sleeved tops are strongly recommended, as are riding gloves. Short sleeved t-shirts are fine, but we will not permit you to ride in a vest top.

Your lesson may be outdoors and we ride in most weathers, so please dress appropriately.

CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING POLICY

Please note that we have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy.

If for any reason you choose to cancel your lesson, you must do so with more than 24 hours notice of the lesson start time. This must be done via your Northington Stables account. You will receive the full amount that you paid for the lesson as credit on your account, which can be used to book another lesson.

If you cancel your lesson after the 24 hours notice period, then you will not receive a credit or refund of any kind.

If we decide to cancel or re-schdule your lesson in the event of extreme weather, the cost of your lesson will be refunded to your account as credit, which you can then use to re-book at a later date.

Instructors may be subject to change.
